First time I had this problem... XMMS issues

Well hello everyone! I am back into the world of Linux again after a long period of leave from the computer... I just installed Slackware 10.1 and love it... As usual!

But as we all know in the computer world, nothing works right the first time! I got everything setup the way I like it except XMMS. I remember before after the install of Slack 10, I could pop in retail CDs, burnt audio cds, playlists from net radios, no problem, got music... Now it has been a battle for anything!

I know the driver works for my soundblaster card and Alsa is all configured. I know this because I get sound in Flash files, and totem (Please don't tell me to stick with totem... that doesn't *fix* the main issue here), as well as the bootup music (ewww!).

After monkeying around with the cd-audio plugin, i changed the analog option to digital and now my burnt cds play nicely through my speakers. Retail ones still a no go. I get "no medium found" thing. Obviously the mount point is good if the burnt ones play so I ruled that one out. And as far as the playlist, I changed the file associations in the advanced desktop preferences (dealing with Gnome here) and it won't even add it to the playlist box in xmms itself.

Any ideas? I feel like a newb all over again! Thanks!

EDIT: Late night post, figured I put XMMS in title... Case of thinking faster than I can type!

Small suggestion: Change the title of your post.
Guys who know about your issues are unlikely to view a post entitled
"First time I had this problem...".
I only looked because I'm twiddling my thumbs waiting for a big download to complete.
BTW: Bill Gates may be an idiot, but he's is a very wealthy idiot.
Cheers
Al
