First Graphic Screen during boot

Before you get to the logon window during boot there is usually a graphic screen that tells you the distribution company. Mandrake, Lindows, etc.

Where does that screen physically exist on the hard drive?

You are refering to a Framebuffer logo, that not all distros have.
This is a file, called an initrd.
You can find it's location by checking your lilo.conf, or grub.conf.
Most often, it is found in /boot/whateverthefilenameis.initrd
