firefox java plugin error

Hi,
I've a problem installing java plugin in firefox under Mandriva 2008.

I've downloaded and installed jre 1.6.0.
Then I've done the followind command:

ln -s /usr/java/default/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so

in the firefox plugin directory.

Now, When I start firefox and try to open a java applet, I obtain an empty box.

Why?

I've also tried to install an older jre, but I obtain the same.

Sounds like you may have a 64-bit version of firefox installed on a 64-bit OS this is a known issue. The fixes are to install the 32-bit version for firefox instead and/or to use the nspluginwrapper utility.

I haven't a 64 bit processor, so I have a 32bit Operating system (Mandriva 2008) and a 32bit firefox version (2.0.0.6).

I'll grant with Mandriva 2007 the firefox java plugin works fine on the same firefox version (2.0.0.6).

Hmmm.........OK thanks it is always nice to know which versions of the OS and such someone has installed nowadays. After re-reading your query, should not the link command be:

ln -s /usr/java/default/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so ./libjavaplugin_oji.so

yes, I know.
But I've tried to install many jre versions, from 1.4 to 1.6, and tried to link the libjavaplugin, but nothing.
I obtain always the same result.

may it be a firefox bug?
