firefox / java plugin

firefox-1.0.7-1.4.3
jre-1.5.0_04-fcs

This is the latest firefox from Redhat Enterprise Linux, and the latest jre rpm from Sun.

I copied
libjavaplugin_oji.so
from
/usr/java/jre1.5.0_06/plugin/i386/ns7/

to /usr/lib/firefox-1.0.7/plugins

But when I access a page with a java plugin, the plugin icon appears.

I had java running before with firefox using a plugin. Any suggestions appreciated. Or if you have tried a different versions of java with the latest firefox and they are working, please let me know.

anne,

i think you are supposed to create a symbolic link from the plugin to the firefox plugins directory. the library stays where it is...

remove libjavaplugin_oji.so from /usr/lib/firefox-1.0.7/plugins

then
Code:
ln -s /usr/java/jre1.5.0_06/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so /usr/lib/firefox-1.0.7/plugins/libjavaplugin_oji.so
then it should work.

hopefully........

also are you sure its the ns7 version??

Thank you satinet!

I created the link and java now works. Is there a java plugin for firefox, as
opposed to the ns7 version? Under the plugin/i386 directory, there is only
ns7 and ns7-gcc29.

Cool NS is fine

Hi Anne.

There is no specific Java plugin for Firefox. The method listen above is how I did it and it works fine. Like the other poster said...as long as it works. ;-) Firefox is the spawn of Netscape anyway, so it all works out.
