Ok .. now by popular demand I am running FC4 .. I do like that there is support for my hardware.
I have a few bugs (operator errors)
I have a samsung DVD-R/RW I have Helix and Real Player installed .. however Real Player does not show up under my applications... I do not know how to uninstall it .. if I try to download it again it tells me that it is already installed ... I am trying to get a media player for audio and video and dvd exct... I would like to utiliz my cd and dvd burning capabilities ... any help appreciated
RealPlayer and HelixPlayer don't play along nicely so its best to remove both and reinstall RealPlayer. Also if you need a multimedia player, then install something like totem-xine or kaffeine with win32 codecs and libdvdcss (for playing encrypted dvds).
To remove RealPlayer, do something like,
Code:
#rpm -qa | grep -i real
A list of packages with the name "real" will be printed on the screen, uninstall the one you don't need by using "rpm -e".
You could try getting a Graphical package manager such as Synaptic (I think it's called) and that would allow you to search though them in a graphical method rather then a command line method. Just an idea...
in my experience apt and synaptic don't work very well in FC. For a graphical interface have a look at yumex.
If '#rpm -qa | grep -i real' doesn't display anything ... you didn't install realplyer through an rpm.
If you use a .bin file or compiled from source (not sure if that's possible for realplayer) try 'which realplayer'.
If that still doesn't work, update your system's find database with
# updatedb
and when that's finished look for realplayer with:
# slocate -i realplayer
If tat doesn't turn anything up either... it's not there!
You could also install xine libs with win32 codecs and a gui like totem or kaffeine. If you install xine libs, amarok can also use its engine to play various formats including wma.
