FC4 Why bother? (Another FC4 Rant)
A couple of weeks ago when FC4 came out I thought I'd download it and give it a go.
I decided to do a fresh install and being bloody minded wanted to do things my way and have it on a reiserfs partition, as most of you can probably guess I had nothing but problems, the whole thing seems geared towards EXT3. I eventually managed to get it installed on a jfs partition and not without having to edit the fstab, grub.conf and re-initialise grub.
Why should I bother with an OS that is so picky about which File System I use?
Is it too much to expect it to be able to install on a FS that's been supported by the linux kernel for several years now.
My understanding is that Fedora was an offering to the Linux community so that improvements could be contributed that would end up in RHE Linux.
If you can't install it, what's the point.
If you can't install it, How can you contribute.
If people could install it how they like then there would be more installations, which would equal more bugs found, or do RH really believe that every single application will be so directly effected by the FS that they don't want you using anything other than EXT?
