Extremley slow application loading!

I have kubuntu installed on my desktop and many programs seem to load a bit slow and even once loaded their icon continues to bounce with the mouse cursor. Sometimes progams only bring up the bouncing cursor and then after about 20 seconds or so it just goes away, and then, I can try again and the program will load. Before kubuntu was installed I expirienced the same problem with knoppix installed to the harddrive. I hope this is an easy fix because otherwise I am 100% satisfied with my system. I am using KDE.

I use debian and kde. I have this same problem, but only with firefox. When i open firefox the 1st time - no problem. But if I open another instance (i don't like tabbing) then i get what u describe. I don't know what causes this; it doesn't happen with any other app. that i am aware of. But i would like to know what's causing it..@!

Perhaps someone can help us...
