Hi Bathory.

Thanks recorded. I do not know which driver is in use, probably that within the original X.org that came with Hardy 8.04. If you know, tell me where it lurks. Other posts have spoken of similar, but not identical situations elsewhere. Would you expect that 10.04 would have a fresh set-up? I am still trying to find out what the results of the two files listed in the error message, no on-line help seems to be available. Being a fugitive from Gates-bloat some years ago is still a hazard when exploring the interstices of the system, at least I knew where to look for such things then. Not sorry to see the back of the horrors though. Have not had a blue screen ever since.

Lost GBP with Shift 3

Hi bathory,

In playing with 9.10 I have discovered that the key combination works fine with the routine uk keyboard loaded by automatic detection by this flavour. This problem looks like indigestion within XKB in 8.04. What reinstallation can be done to get over it? I have the original DVD with 8.04 installation on it.

Hi,

Dunno what's wrong, but you might take a look at 3.3 and 3.4 in the release notes of 8.10, to see if this is your case

Regards

Thanks Bathory!

Does anyone else have any idea of how X.Org config files get loaded upon installation? Because all was well for so long before the "Error activating XKB configuration" appeared and I lost my GBP symbol something must have corrupted some file(s). Presumably changes could have happend within an update since the original installation. Having the original disk could lead me to reinstalling just that bit.

On a slightly different tack, while the books say that the configuration input allows one to enable the scroll wheel on the mouse (which has never worked) there is no ability to do so anymore. I note from the Release Notes referred to above tell me that this facility has been removed for distributions later than 8.04. I am not sure if the wheel is detected automatically with the latest versions yet. Guidance here will be welcome.
