email from the console (fetchmail/procmail/mutt/postfix)
I'm trying to set things up so that I can read/send email from the console. I want to use Mutt to read mail, but I have several pop3 accounts on different servers, so I think I need to use fetchmail rather than Mutt's built-in pop functions. From researching this, I've found that Fetchmail requires a local SMTP server and I've heard that postfix is the best for this. But, this whole setup seems a bit heavy-weight - for instance, postfix is asking for my domain name, but I don't have one. All I really want to do is be able to collect my mail from a few different pop servers and send via my ISP's SMTP server. Do I really need to run my own local SMTP server just to be able to collect from a few different pop servers? Does that mean that I by-pass my ISP's SMTP server? Is there any danger that my ISP's dynamically-assigned IPs could end up on some blocklist somewhere, rendering this all a bit futile? In short, I'm confused. Can anyone straighten things out for me?
Thanks.
