I have installed SUSE Linux and have been a user for a few years, i recently had to reinstall my windows xp due to various microsof crap. well now my GRUB2 wont boot the OS List, just boots me into windows.
i need to get my GRUB2 back up, any ideas on how to do this????
What kind of error does it give when you try to load suse?
Boot the first cd from the suse install set. Choose the rescue procedure. yast2 will give you a list of possible fixes, and you can choose to fix the grub section. In the best scenario, this would suffice.
In the worst, you should boot the computer with a live cd of any linux, like suse live eval, or knoppix. Once in the graphical interface, you can edit grub's menu.lst, if its the case.
ok so i tossed in my linux suse 9.0 boot disk since i did a network install the firs time, i chose the linux rescue and it pops up to a rescue~# prompt. where do i go freom here, i have tried loading yast2 and it cannot find it, and the only thing that seems to work is grub, but then i have the Grub> prompt and it seems i can't run yast from there either....?????????? please help
At this point I'm not sure I'd attempt to restore grub as my bootloader but would go for the XP bootloader instead. At the prompt, you'll need to make a copy of the boot sector to a floppy or some partition available to windows. All that is available from the link I listed above.
ok so i fixed the issue simply by upgrading my 9.0 suse distro to 9.1, well now there seems to be another problem........fist of all it takes a good 5-7 minuted to just load linux....is this normal? second, after suse loads up the b&w screen that generally has my login, is just the b&w screen without any login info. so i cannot login.
no i do have 2 monitors set up on this machine and one of them is telling me that the resolution is out of range, but this is my secondary monitor and i never had a problem here in the past. any info will help.
I'm not sure what may be causing the long boot-up... what appears to be taking the longest? Can you see if something is hanging and eventually timing out (i.e. network connection or pcmcia)?
