DRM not loading for Y Reasons, where Y is the reason
well i'm trying to get 3D acceleration working on my laptop (HP Pavilion zv6100) which has an ATI Radeon XPRESS 200M. Drivers etc etc work, fine i'm following a guide made by old_fogie to get them workin and all. But the problem arise when he talks about DRM and agpgart. concerning my video card is PCI-E and all, i dont have the agpgart module (i've even checked with modprobe) so how do i get this installed? Now, the bigger issue, DRM is there but not loading. After checking in my Xorg Logs i've seen this:
Code:
drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0
drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device)
drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device)
drmOpenDevice: Open failed
drmOpenByBusid: Searching for BusID pci:0000:01:05.0
drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0
drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device)
drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device)
drmOpenDevice: Open failed
drmOpenByBusid: drmOpenMinor returns -1023
drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card1
drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device)
drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device)
drmOpenDevice: Open failed
drmOpenByBusid: drmOpenMinor returns -1023
drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card2
drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device)
drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device)
drmOpenDevice: Open failed
[note] this continues all the way to here:
drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card253
drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device)
drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device)
drmOpenDevice: Open failed
drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card254
drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device)
drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device)
drmOpenDevice: Open failed
(EE) RADEON(0): [dri] RADEONDRIGetVersion failed to open the DRM
[dri] Disabling DRI.
so what i'm asking, is what is the problem and how do i fix it?
well anyway, thats all, if you need more info, just ask
I also have to same problem, and have searched and searched for an explanation of this seemingly redundant searching of devices, but not a single answer.
...You know, just to keep your hopes of ever playing a 3d game evey again up.
Yes, it would seem that most of us with 200M's are SOL.
Here is yet one more link with instructions to get it working in linux (although I have not tried this myself). A couple of points I've seen in common to try:
First, you can try UMA + Sideport, or just Sideport alone. I have heard rumor this works best. (So much for the dedicated 128M!).
Second, the UMA appears to only work properly in linux if the full 128M of shared RAM is allocated. The 32M and 64M settings appear not to work.
Now that I've added the 1G stick, I may try this again. Since I have 1.2G, I don't feel quite as cheated losing 128M to the graphics card.
If anyone tries this with any success, I would appreciate knowing.
