driver/softwares installation on redhat

Hi All,

I am newbie to Linux (guess easy to say this isnt it ).

I managed to get RedHat Linux Installed (trust me it was tough for me, first tried debian, wasnt able to configure then went for manriva didnt work out, then RedHat which blew off windows, then again at last RedHat was successful without any configuration needed )

So I have now windows and Redhat linux up and running.

The next step for me is get some softwares/drivers installed.

In windows we just have these as setup.exe files

When I use the same in RedHat Linux I get

Nautiles has no installed viewer capable of displaying "mnt/cdrom/setup.exe"

I read in one of the softwares to run the .sh file, but most of the softwares/drivers i have are having .exe files.

How do I get them installed.

Regards

Welcome new linux user. Would you like the good news or the bad news first.

I'll start with the bad news I guess. setup.exe won't run because its a windows program, windows software won't run on linux unless you have an emulator like "wine"... which doesn't normally (or at all) work with drivers.

Now for the good news. Windows software won't run on Linux. :-)

Please let us know what version of RedHat you're running and what hardware you are having problems with right now. In many cases there's something else that can be done to make the hardware work on Linux.

All the drivers you need yet included in the Linux kernel, drivers for your video card included in the x-server installation.
Any M$ Windows software couldn't work in Linux. Your distribution include enough software for about any purpose. About installation - read man rpm
