divx


Hey guys, im totally new to linux and i cant figure out how to install divx.

In the extracted divx file. Its got an install.sh file.

how exactly do i install it ?

Code:
chmod +x install.sh
./install.sh
You might not need the first option but it allows the file to be executed. The second one runs the script (note it's a dot before the slash)

When you use linux, you need to read the error messages and figure out what to do next. This is an insanely easy-to-fix problem and I'm sure at this stage everybody is more than happy to help you sort things out but if you ask questions of this calibre too often it will become old.

I've made bold the bits that are important. You'll need to use the mkdir command to make the directory that it's looking for, the script obviously isn't smart enough to do that on it's own and go from there I'll let you try and find out how to use mkdir yourself, learning is fun

I know how to do all of that stuff...i just didn't understand how that directory had anything to do with divx

That's where the header files go and some other stuff so other applications can link against it at compile-time. You didn't ask why DivX needed it, you didn't actually ask anything. Just help.....
