/dev/ttyUSB0 and permissions

Hello, I am having trouble getting jpilot to work. It works well under the root user so I think I am having a permissions problem. I am using FC3 and the permissions on /dev/ttyUSB0 and /dev/ttyUSB1 are as follows:

crw-rw---- 1 root uucp 188, 0 Nov 14 15:00 /dev/ttyUSB0
crw-rw---- 1 root uucp 188, 1 Nov 14 15:00 /dev/ttyUSB1

My user account is mrsolo, what I did was go into the user config utility included with FC3 and added my user account to group uucp. When I go to a terminal and type groups, all that is listed is my own group account, mrsolo. Why isn't uucp shown, after all I did just add myself to the group uucp. Any help would be great.

Well, I was able to get the groups issue straightened out, however, my palm cannot sync with jpilot or any other linux palm app. The root account palm sync works really well. Does anyone have any experience getting the palm sync to work with a regular user? I used MDK 10 and the palm sync worked fine for users.
