Debian not recognozing hd for install

I downloaded the latest version of debian 'sarge'. It boots up ok from the cd. But when it is time to install to the hd it does not recognize it. But it does recognize the 4 ports on the front of the pc which are the memstick, smartmedia, compactflash, and mmc/sd offer to format them which of course it can't since they are all empty. Oh the hardware is HP Multimedia with and Intel P4 D chip. How can I get around this problem and make 'sarge' recognize my hd?

Smile

It just looks for hard drives but doesn't seem to detect the 'real' hard drive.
