Database packages?

Hi,

Im currently working for a charity in Bristol changing all of their systems over to Linux. They have ask if I can design a database for them containing basic personal information about the members of the charity. However they have no finances to be able to buy a database package.

Does anybody know of a database package that has a free licence and which is relatively easy to use?

I do own VB6 is this compatible with Linux?

Best regards

There are two relational database packages that come with practically any Linux distribution. MySQL and Postgresql. You will find documentation for them on the web, as well as books on each in the book store if you want to find a resource on setting them up and using them.

I believe that odbc drivers are also available to allow interfacing the database with linux or windows applications that would use it such as Open Office.

Designing the tables themselves may be the hardest job. MySQL puts out a set of books that will help you with that part also (normalizing, etc).

Good Luck!
