CVS upside down

Now this is weird!
Setting up a CVS server following steps as stated clearly in cvsbook.red-bean.com up to the point where I am to import a project, using the command
$ cvs import -m "log msg" projname vendortag releasetag.

What do I get in my repository: my project upside down, that is: from projname "recursively reversed" up to my /home -- so everything in my /home that is outside of projname rather than inside iykwim.

I am sure it is my inexperience, so ... anyone can tell me what?
