convert AVI to xvid or divx

Is there any free software on linux which would allow me to convert any avi file (regardless of it's codec) and encode it into xvid or divx. Without any limitations such as only encodes first 25minutes. Relatively fast but decent quality. Also runs well on debian sarge

this is Linux.. why would anything on such a lovely operating system have a usage limit like that?

if you like to get your hands dirty try transcode
