hey, i'm having a problem installing a program called AviDemux. when i type ./configure it goes through the list checking everything and a little ways into it it comes up with:
checking for pkg-config... /usr/bin/pkg-config
Package gtk+-2.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `gtk+-2.0.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'gtk+-2.0' found
************ Cannot identify gtk2 version ***************
configure: error: *** pkg-config installed incorrectly or gtk2-dev absent ! ***
could someone tell me what i need to do? it looks like that error is tying to tell me what to do but being the linux newb i am i can't make any sence of it. i'm using Fedora Core 2.
hmm, nevermind. a bunch of the packages wern't reading and i couldn't reinstall them cuz it says they're already there...oh well, i've only had fc2 installed for like a day, i'm just reinstalling the whole os.
It's definatly a dependancy issue. Before you reinstall, are you sure it's not looking for an updated version (sorry I'm using FC1 so I can't check) and did you query with rpm?
reinstalling is really not necessary to solve a problem like this
There are a few things here which could cause this error:
-the best shot is by going after the suggested cause of the problem:
************ Cannot identify gtk2 version ***************
configure: error: *** pkg-config installed incorrectly or gtk2-dev absent ! ***
by checking WHERE and IF you really have the needed gtk2-dev package installed
then try "echo $PKG_CONFIG_PATH" and see if the path to those libraries is in the output
-your library loader does not know the location of your gtk-libraries - but this is more unlikely here
you would check by doing: "cat /etc/ld.so.conf" and see if the path to those libraries is in there - it probably is - but if not - add it and run "ldconfig" afterwards
