config file for wine-20050725

I am missing the config file for wine 20050725.

I have installed from the source tarball using the installer included. I can run many dos and windows things but some issues have cropped up that suggest I need to tweak this file.

It is supposed to be in <path to source>/documents/config

(Once I've got this licked I'll write a HOWTO for fc4...)

not sure...

I think it may be .wine

Yup, including the dot. Possibly in /

so try typing manually through the console or in the URL bar .wine in various places.

hope it helps,

It's not clear what you mean by "missing".

Obviously the last poster thought you might not know what its name is supposed to be.

It sounds to me more like you know its name & path, it's just not where it's supposed to be.

Any chance you could "dissect" the tarball to see if
  • It was included,
  • What its path & name are.
Hope this isn't a stupid suggestion; I don't do tarballs, so I don't know how easy my proposed "dissection" might be.

slackwarebilly: the config file is supposed to be in ~/.wine/ - but this does not exist either. Some folk have found in in /root/.wine or /root/.wine/config - but this just means that they installed as root user: which is strongly discouraged by the wine developers.

The idea is that I copy the sample <path to source>/documents/config to ~/.wine/

archtoad6: well - the developers reccomend the binary rpm for this, but they don't have one for FC4 (FC3's as high as they go for now... maybe the next release?) So I have to compile from source.

I used the installer that came with the tarball.

"dissecting the tarball" - first thing I tried:
The documentation in the tarball says nothing about it - I got the location off winehq install/configuration instructions. It may be that it is not included in the latest tarball - only I get a blank on this subject from google et al.

I don't seem to see any sample config files online either... though there are any number of sites about tweaking it for a particular purpose.

I've tried hunting it down by updating the slocate database and searching that. I've looked through the tarball directory by directory. Nada.

So you see: by "missing" I mean "not there", "absent" etc. I know where it is supposed to be and what it should contain... not only is it not where advertised, it is not anywhere.

Any chance of adapting an old one to the latest version?

goodness only knows.

the older ones seem to have been called wine.conf while the current one is just called "config" - apart from that, I doubt theres much difference.

Unless someone knows how to find the current one?

I was having the same problem, until i found this

Quote:
As of Wine release 20050628 we have transitioned away from the config file and now place these values in registry files found in your .wine directory. winecfg (wine configurator) in conjunction with regedit (registry editor) are two graphical front ends that makes changing registry values easier for end user's. winecfg while still beta software can be used for basic configuration and optimizations, more advanced users may wish to use regedit to make changes that winecfg isn't capable of performing.
on http://www.winehq.com/site/howto

hope this helps
