where is the wine config file, i just compiled and installed the latest version of wine(9-14-2004) and it's apparently self configuring, but i want to tweak it some more. i looked in the .wine directory and i dont see a config file. if it's self configuring, shouldnt there be one in there?

it might be different on your distro, but mine is in $HOME/.wine/config

there's no extension after the filename...just config

my /.wine dir has: cachedmetrics.:0.0, system.reg, user.reg, userdef.reg and two folders: dosdevices and drive_c. i dont understand why the config file is not there... is it possible that wine doesnt really need a config file to run and that if i put a config file /.wine it will use it?

well here's mine if you want to compare...

the only thing i changed was in the [Version] section i changed it from "win98" to "win2k". this was installed on SuSE9.1 via RPM file labeled release 2004-09-14.

it seems that the configuration file is not always created automatically, this page says "creating or Modifying the configuration file", but it was buried pretty deep in the site: http://www.winehq.com/site/docs/wine-user/config-file. i compiled and installed wine from source, so i guess maybe that's the reason. im gonna copy the sample file and configure it and see if that works

Wine can run fine without a config file

Maybe will this be a very late addition to this thread. But I've used winecfg and can't find my config file. Where do I find it? I really need to modify it manually...

The config file was removed a long time ago. All you should need is winecfg and/or regedit.
