Complete noob question from a noob

Hello my name is Marty. I am fairly new to Linux and have limited knowledge of this system so most likely I will make you cringe from my posts. Sorry... in advance.

Now to get started with my desperate cry for help... I have three installation disks for Red Hat 9. Currently I am running Mac OS X.2.6. I plan on putting a image of Linux on a harddrive partition. I have already partitioned my drive and every thing should be ready to go, but I 'm having one small problem. The Linux install disk will not boot at all. Mac OSX doesnt even recognize the CD as bootable. I'm pretty sure its not my BIOS (All of my Mac system CDs still boot properly). Can any help? Is there an incompatibility with my Mac os possibly?

Marty

I don' t think the compatibility is with OS X, it's with Apple hardware.

I think you may need to try Yellow Dog Linux. If I remember, it's an apple specific distro.

If I'm wrong someone here will correct me promptly.

Good Luck

You are correct, however there are quite a few flavors offereing PPC options:
www.gentoo.org
www.mandrake-linux.com
And so on...
www.distrowatch.com

But yes, as far as the rest of the bit, you'll need to get a PPC (PowerPC) version of a distro.

HTH

Cool
