Question change the /var/spool/mail to any other location

Hello,

I'm using a mail server fc4.
All the mail will be saved in /var/spool/mail.

Is there any way that let us change the mail delivery
from /var/spool/mail to any other folder?

What do i have to change?

Where must i define this location?

Which mail server are you running and are you talking about your local system mail, or are you running a network mail server?

An easy way of doing that would be to delete /var/spool/mail and create a symlink to the directory of your choice, but I'm not sure that's really a safe way of doing it.

I'm running sendmail for mail server. And I mean the local system mail.

I have created a symlink and that is not going to work, because the system create again the "/var/spool/mail directory".

May I ask why you want to change the default from /var/spool/mail?

I want to change the /var/spool/mail directory to an other location, because I have not enough space left (on this partition).

When a user creates a folder on there mail account, the folder will be placed in the users home directory <-- but not the inbox folder !!

The inbox folder always stays in the /var/spool/mail. So the mean reason is to keep user data together, on one place.

Then there's an easier solution, that keeps /var/spool/mail where it belongs, and it is generally a good idea to leave default locations where they should be:

Mount your spare partition at /var/spool/mail. The command might look something like this:

mount -t ext3 /dev/hdsparepartition /var/spool/mail

This is one of the beauties of the linux filesystem: you can "tack on" whole filing systems pretty much wherever you want.
