np. I'm not sure what the "prefered" way is but this seems to work and not break anything. If anyone knows better, please speak now, or forever hold your tongues!

cddesjar,

Did you get it going?
To enable scsi emulation you need only append lilo with:

append="hdx=ide-scsi" (where x is your drive, hdc, hdd, etc.)

Then run /sbin/lilo

Then reboot.

You can use your media players config to tell it where to look or
you can make symlinks.

An /etc/fstab change will also be in order.
In mine (below) hdd is /dev/cdrom (dvdrom) and hdd is /dev/scd0 (ideburner)

first part of /etc/lilo.conf :

# LILO configuration file
# generated by 'liloconfig'
#
# Start LILO global section
append="hdd=ide-scsi"
boot = /dev/hda
message = /boot/boot_message.txt
prompt
timeout = 1200
# Override dangerous defaults that rewrite the partition table:
change-rules

fstab:

/dev/hda6 swap swap defaults 0 0
/dev/hda5 / ext3 defaults 1 1
/dev/hda7 /home ext3 defaults 1 2
/dev/hda1 /winduhs vfat defaults 1 0
/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto,user,ro 0 0
/dev/scd0 /mnt/scd0 iso9660 noauto,user 0 0
/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto noauto,user 0 0
devpts /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
