Sorry this is a terrible question (noob), but i cant log in. I think i am making some basic error. I have mandriva 2007 spring mini. The installation went fine set my password and everything but when i go to login i type my username and thats fine but it wont let me enter my password in, so i cant log in. Basic question but it has come to this thanks.
If it's a console login (and in some cases graphical too), it just won't print the password you're typing. It takes the input, but won't print stars or boxes or anything (that's the traditional way; some new login managers do print stars or boxes instead of letters, the old login thingies print nothing to prevent anybody from seeing how much and what you type). Just be precice with capitals and non-capitals.
Do you remember the root password? You could log into one of the virtual terminals (e.g. [CTRL-ALT-F1]) as root and then enter:
passwd yourusername
You will be prompted for a new password.
Another potential problem is if there is a problem with your video setup. Try to login as your regular user in a virtual terminal. If you can login there, it probably isn't a password problem.
