Can't shut down linux

I use RedHat9 as a small office server and I use GUI. I have been using it for 2 years and I am pleased whit it, but recently I have some strange problems. The server is performing its tasks (proxy, mail, webserver, ftp server functions) well, but I can't intervene in the process (everywhere I click with the mouse , nothing happen, I can't do enithing until I restart the system with the reset button).

Can somebody help me?
Thanks!

Most probably a X server crash or something, try to switch to text mode and try to find what is going on.

Hit Control-Alt-F2 to get to a term.
From there run ps -aux to get a list of what processes are currently running.
Or better yet, run top to see what's chewing up your CPU.

From there kill -9 PID (PID being the Process ID number) is your friend...

su to root as necessary.

Ok I turned linux into the terminal mode and I killed the process which is probably caused the problem. But the big question is:
How to turn back into the graphic mode?

Thank you!
