The script under /etc/init.d is for standalone mode, maybe you are already running it from inetd?

I'm not sure. I followed this guide:

I'm not sure if the init.d scripts were working before, I have a feeling they were, but I don't beleive I messed any of the scripts up. =(

So, what would you recommend doing? This is my second failed attempt at installing an FTP server (I tried installing pro-ftpd before this, but had no luck either...and I really liked the mySQL compatibility in pure-ftpd).
