If you're installing from the command line, you probably want to be root, then use 'rpm -ivh <path_to_rpm_file>' to install the .rpm file. If you didn't give it a '-i' in there, it probably didn't install it.
To check if it's actually installed, use 'rpm -qa | grep xine' and see what comes up. If you don't see anything, it didn't get installed.
