Can't browse my data dvd's with Konqueror under suse 10.0 anymore!
Suse 10.0 has mysteriously started calling my dvd+rw data disks "video cd's" and refuses to let me browse them with Konqueror (even though the icon for the disk shows up under the "My Computer" window of Konqueror). I can't even get to browse the disk with mount and umount! I've tried logging in as root in a Konsole and tried:
Code:
linux:/ # umount /dev/hdc
linux:/ # umount /dev/hdc
umount: /dev/hdc: not mounted
linux:/ # mount -tiso9660 /dev/dvdrecorder /media/dvdrecorder
My system still sees the dvd+rw as a video cd even after I do this!
My dvd recorder is entered as /dev/dvdrecorder /media/dvdrecorder in my fstab file!
Nevertheless, Konqueror throws up a dialog box asking:
Code:
Open 'media:/hdc'?
Type: Video CD
when I click on my data dvd+rw. I just finished making the data dvd+rw with k3b and verifying it, too. This happened with two other dvd+rw disks I was trying to browse, also!
Affirmative, that works. I don't know what has changed that makes the Konqueror browser be forced to see a data dvd as a video CD instead, and display that stupid dialog box. Sure, I can use Konsole, BASH, the terminal. I don't consider that a solution, though.
since my first post, I changed the dvdrecorder fstab entry to:
Have I intimidated everybody? This is very bothersome, mainly because I have no idea why it started happening. Suddenly, Konqueror sees my Data Dvd's as Video CD's (VCD). I can browse them graphically in icon view, on the vertical sidebar, but not in the main Konqueror window with icon view or any other view mode. I've also checked a box on the dialog box to not have it show anymore, and I get a configuration error dialog box instead.
I find myself wondering if recompiling the kernel for my new version of the nVidia driver could have done this. Since yesterday, I have upgraded the Dvd flash RAM of my Sony DRU-720a burner(have to go to Windows to do that, ugh); also upgraded the version of k3b and of automount removable media with YOU. I tried writing another Dvd, and the problem is still there. Konqueror sees my Data Dvd's as Video CD's, and also won't browse them in an icon view main window (oh, an added puzzle; Konqueror DOES treat Data Dvd's I made before say, a month ago, totally normally).

It will be the KDE automounter thats set to the particular action for your data medium. Just had a look in KDE control center and I cant find it. What I suggest you do to prove this is
i) Use a different window manager i.e. Gnome
ii) Create a new user with Suse yast and use kde, this time make careful note that the box
"always do this action" is not ticked
AS you can browse ok from the command line this is a kde problem thats all.
