Only reads 80% of data DVD's

Hi there! After getting completely fed up with XP I've decided to move over to Linux, Mandrake 10.1 Downloadable version to be exact! I love it completely, it's a little more fiddly to set up than XP but it works like a dream.

I'm only having 1 problem and that's reading data DVD's. I've found some info in another thread that I used and it increased from reading 1 out of every 10 data DVD's to reading 8 out 10 data DVD's. I just need it to read the other 2/10! I've followed all the instructions I could find and everything seems to be setup correctly.

I've only got 1 DVD-ROM/Writer which is identified correctly as a _NEC DVD_RW ND-3520A.

It's mounted using auto in fstab with -i9660 option thrown in there as well. I've installed decss/css (I know there just for video but what can't hurt can only help!) and I've installed DVD-RW Tools and the UDF Library!

Can anybody help me out! Thanks in advance.

You can try to upgrade the firmware.

Cheers for the quick response. I've just been looking at the firmware upgrades but there's a whole bunch of them, most of them just seem to be about setting the book type and/or making it region free. Do you know which firmware is the best to use? Sorry to sound a total noob!

Cheers for that! I've flashed the firmware and it's still the same, but to be honest I think it's a media problem. There's a few discs that when I try to read them it just shows me them as being burnt but doesn't read the directory structure. After these discs it doesn't reset the drive so any other discs I put in just show up as being unreadable. A reboot solves the problem and the other discs are readable again. So it's more like 99% of the discs read. I'm gonna grab the data off of them through XP and reburn the discs, I reckon it'll solve the problems. Again, cheers for the help mate.
