Brasero slow, and can't configure it via gconf-editor

Hello.

There's a lot of info about this problem on the net. Brasero is damn slow when burning DVDs (besides some other problems, but hey, once at a time). Using cdrkit or cdrtools doesn't really make a difference. Most times it craps out the disk, and if by chance it burns, it can take up to 30 minutes or more.

People on the internet suggest that I should be editing the brasero settings using gconf-editor to set the engine to growisofs, but there's no such key called apps/brasero in the gconf-editor, and searching for "brasero" or "wodim" doesn't return anything.

growisofs on command line works like a charm, as you can see yourself, not even 5 minutes to burn the same contents (and without errors, which is even better).

Code:
 17:31:13 $ growisofs -dvd-compat -Z /dev/sr0 -J -R -pad "."
Executing 'mkisofs -J -R -pad . | builtin_dd of=/dev/sr0 obs=32k seek=0'
Setting input-charset to 'UTF-8' from locale.

Well from the last few times I had Brasero installed, it was having other issues which made it unusable for me with different distros. At that I just installed a different burning program, mostly xfburn. K3b is pretty good but I wouldn't install it because I wasn't using KDE.

Have you installed another burning program to see how it compares with Brasero? Just my thoughts!

Brasero has spoilt a few disks for me in the past. Now I use Gnomebaker and have no problems with that.

I appreciate the responses, it couldn't be any other way. But I know about the alternatives since I've been using this same OS for almost a decade, that doesn't really answer what I am asking.

It's just that I've been some time without trying Gnome and I was wondering if anyone around knows why brasero no longer has entries in the gconf database. It's quite strange that it's failing for so much people. Yesterday I tried the suse gnome3 livecd (using gnome 2.x in the offending box) and it made absolute no difference.

The command line tools do work. k3b also works. There's absolute no reason why any other frontend should not work. Much less in the case of brasero, which is now an old critter and that is the default burn program in many mainstream distros.
