Best Operating system for Oracle

Hi,

I have been trying to install Oracle 10g and 9i on Suse 9.1 pro, but have been unsuccessful thus far. 10g would log me out when the installer opened and 9i would do the same, except I got a little further with 9i. Since I'm at a dead end, I don't know whether I should keep chugging along with Suse, or whether I should switch operating systems, such as Red Hat, or Solaris. We do have Red Hat 8, but I don't think that is certified with Oracle, like Suse 9.1, either. I was wondering if anyone would have any suggestions as to what I should do, or maybe suggest which operating system and version would be best to try next. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I would suggest.. as a cost-efficient way.. go to Best Buy and pick up Red hat Professioanl Work Station...

he discs inside are (and are labeled as such) Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS 3

You just get al the bonus tech support as you would purchasing a RHEL service agreement...

The RHPW package is only $70 and since it is RHEL.. it is certified with Oracle.. and I believe you still get 30 or 60 days tech support with RHPW...

Did you install Oracle on this and if so, was it an easy install?

Dear,
you have to set the JRE_LOCATION in ../Disk1/install/linux/oraparam.ini
to the path of your java installation such as /usr/lib/
.
