Backspace changing indentation OpenOffice 2

So the good developers of OpenOffice have finally managed to implement what is IMO one of the most annoying features a word processor could have. That is, if you're at the beginning of a line which is beginning-of-paragraph indented (i.e. you have dragged the upper triangle on the ruler a little ways in from the lower triangle) and you hit backspace, this does not remove the line and get you to the previous line while keeping paragraph formatting intact: it actually removes the indentation, as if you had manually indented the paragraph with a tab.

And the best thing is: I have searched through help files and customization menus and as of yet not found how to disable this. Does anyone know how to do this, or has the vast group of users who do not know how to deal with indentation properly triumphed over the ones who do?
