Apache - Redirection problem...

I have a clean install of MDK 10 CE. When I attempt to view use the webserver, it works ok. I get the page for ADVX. I then created a public_html folder in my home directory and attempted to access it via the internet at http://10.0.0.1/~username

Thats not my real IP but you get the point. When I type that in, it redirects me to http://127.0.0.1/~username. Why does it do this and how can I go about fixing it? Ive never had this problem before... I didnt even change any of the configurations. Its all the defaults.

Thanks for any help in advance.

are you viewing this localy? ie from the server it self or are you viewing it from one of your other computers in your LAN, still local mind you?

if you are viewing from the server that could explain the redirec to 127.0.0.1 as that is the defualt for your loopback on your NIC.

if you are viewing it from your LAN it should not do that as it will then point to the comptuer you are looking from and not the server.

if you are trying to come to it like you would from the outside, that will not work.

at least that is how i understand it. im sure one of the real gurus around here can correct me if im wrong.

Thank you for your input Lleb_KCir

Heh... here's the wierd part.

I am accessing it from outside the network (over the net). In the public_html folder, I have a file 'imagetype.c' which I can directly access and obtain with no problem. I have an index.html file which is just plain HTML. I can access it with no problem via FTP. SSH is another issue...

Thats the update... any help is greatly appreciated.

when you access from the WAN does it still try to redirect you to the loopback IP?
