Thanks. Still a no go, though, and I wouldn't be surprised
if it turns out to be something obvious...
After installing RPM package,
rpm -ivh bcm4400-3.0.7-1.src.rpm
...then changing directory as,
cd /usr/src/redhat
...then attempting to build object file,
rmpbuild -bb SPECS/bcm4400.spec, error outs as,
#-----------------------------------------------
+ umask 022
+ cd /usr/src/redhat/BUILD
+ CD BCM4400-3.0.7
+ LANG=C
+ export LANG
+ make bcm4400.o
Makefile:18: *** Linux kernel source
tree not found Stop.
error: Bad exit status from /var/tmp
/rpm-tmp.7053 (%build)
RPM build errors:
Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.7053 (%build)
#-----------------------------------------------
Line 18 of the makefile is:
ifeq ($(LINUX),)
$(error Linux kernel source tree not found)
endif
...attempted assigning LINUX variable
to /usr/src/redhat instead of /usr/src/linux
in the makefile, which did not build the
object file. Any thoughts?
mara; thanks have been concerned about this. apperantly either have very little knowledge or unwilling to read basics and they abound everywhere. right here on lq docs online most sites have howtos do not
understand why not? am a newbie too but before starting did the reading,
trying freebies to view and see if i could manage. BINGO! although still learning (at the plate) baseball vernacular no hits no runs yet but swinging.
You will need to install the kernel source files(you can install it off the CD if you're using the default kernel) to compile the NIC driver. You can find out which kernel version you are using by typing in
Code:
uname -r
You might also be able to get support for your NIC by upgrading your kernel. In 2.6 kernels, the modules is renamed as b44.
