Ambiguous error messages from fsck, but not from e2fsck

I recieved a new case in the mail and transferred all hardware from one case to the other... since then, I have had two new problems. This thread concerns the first:

/etc/rc contains the line:

/sbin/fsck -A -C -T

which drops into single user mode on $? > 0 for repairs.

When run, /dev/hda2 comes back as clean. /dev/hda3 and 4 fail on $?=8 with the message: need terminal for interactive repairs.

Now, when I run e2fsck by hand, I get no problems. All filesystems come back clean. Only fsck -A gives problems.

Any thoughts?

fsck -A fails

Hi,
I did info fsck, and under the -A option, it says that if two filesystems in /etc/fstab have the same pass number, fsck will try to check them in parallel. This might be a problem, but I am not sure. You might look in /etc/fstab and see what pass numbers the two filesystems have.

Thanks for the suggestion; I tried it, and got the same results.

An item of note... I'm using the CRUX mini-distribution which seems to insist on using devfs, something I know nothing about. It's tempting to attribute fs-related problems that I don't understand to this.
