e2fsck error

While running e2fsck on my hdc2 partition, i got the following error,
"Attempt to read block from filesystem resulted in short read while checking ext3 journal"

Any help will be appreciated.

TIA

I am using redhat distro and the kernel version is 2.4.7-10 (A wee bit old, but this hard disk came up for salvaging some data and am no expert at doing it )

Hi,

Well you try to check a journalized filesystem... that's useless

But there were other partitions in ext3 which had e2fsck run perfectly on them.

Only /dev/hda2 showed this error.
/dev/hda1,/dev/hda3 and /dev/hda5 all had some inode problems which were fixed by this utility.

Or am I doing something wrong ?

Here is a good link
personnaly I think it may come from the journal part of your FS...
