.alsaconfig help > need default device from analog to digital

Well, Now that my ati drivers are up and running and my sound is configured, I want my whole system to run with the nforce digital sound (not analog). I know that it works, because xmms comes with a plugin that enables you to use the digital out for sound (which works), but I was wondering what I need to make it so that by default, my entire system uses digital out insted of analog? I have had people tell me stuff about .alsaconfig and stuff, but every ting I Try results in an error. Can anybody help me out? I want to make it so kde sounds, games, gaim, and everything plays through digital. Thanks in advanced

I can only help 50%, when you got the other half, please let me know..

I can always directt sound either Digital (Optical SPDIF) or Analog (Front Speakers) but not both.

this is the file you should put in `/.asoundrc

### /etc/asound.conf for nforce2 apu (analog out, from http://www.wlug.org.nz/NForce2Notes)

pcm.!default {
type plug
slave.pcm "nforce"
}

pcm.nforce {
type dmix
ipc_key 1024
slave {
pcm "hw:0,0"
period_time 0
period_size 1024
buffer_size 4096
rate 48000
}
}

pcm.nforce-hw {
type hw
card 0
}

pcm.!default {
type plug
slave.pcm "nforce"
}

pcm.nforce {
type dmix
ipc_key 1234
slave {
pcm "hw:0,2"
period_time 0
period_size 1024
buffer_size 4096
rate 44100
}
}

ctl.nforce-hw {
type hw
card 0
}

To direct sound to the Analog, replace the "hw:0,2" with "hw:0,0"

Rename all the nforce to snd-intel8x0 and try again.
