www prefix prob

Hi,

Im trouble with the www prefix, maindomaion.com work fine www.maindomain.com doesn't. I am using plesk to set/change the dns setting and nothing seem to fix it.. Although when add I webmail.maindomina.com to the dns it works fine.. webmail works fine

Can anyone help with a solution & also tell me where these settings are in the command line

Thanks

Thought a quick way woud be to add the following

<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerAdmin info@mydomain.com
DocumentRoot /var/www/vhosts/mydomain.com
ServerName mydomain.com
ServerAlias www.mydomain.com
</VirtualHost>

but that did not work, did I make mistake?

That looks OK. Are you sure you have a DNS record set for www.maindomain.com? Can you ping www.maindomain.com from an external machine (ie not one on your network)?

In control panel i'm using (plesk) has the dns records displaying, everythhing seems to work fine except www prefix.. ie webmail.maindomin.co.uk

could you point me in the right direction where to look for the setting on my system command line.

also some back ground the domain in question has been backed up from one server using plesk backup and transfered to another.. it may be an ip mapping problem from what iu've read but find it difficult to investigate (cause it's a little beyond me
