Question weird openssl error - looks like a coding issue... or what?

OpenSUSE 11.3, openssl was just updated with YAST (to see if there is any fix available but not)

# openssl version
OpenSSL 1.0.0 29 Mar 2010

# openssl -genrsa -des3 -out ca.key 4096
Generating RSA private key, 4096 bit long modulus
.....<random number of dots>....++
.........<random number of dots>......++
e is 65537 (0x10001)
User interface error
3082462856:error:0906906F:PEM routines:PEM_ASN1_write_bio:read keyem_lib.c:382:

What is this? Do I do something wrong, or ... how to fix that?

Have you tried running openssl with administrative privilege? This seems to fix this type of error in similar threads (the line number is different, but that could be version differences).

I was doing all the stuff as root.

Actually the solution is:
-rand
to the command line. Very weird, openssl should report that somehow else I think.
