USB Mobile broadband modem "Activation of network connection failed"

Hello all, I am somewhat new to Linux and I now need to use a USB modem for my work. The problem is when I try to connect to the broadband connection, it says "activation of network connection failed":

$lsusb gives:

Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub

Bus 001 Device 007: ID 13d3:5a02 IMC Networks

Bus 001 Device 006: ID 8087:0a2a Intel Corp.

Bus 001 Device 015: ID 05c6:6000 Qualcomm, Inc. Siemens SG75

Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

the fourth entry is my modem.

$usb-devices gives:

T: Bus=01 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=02 Cnt=01 Dev#= 15 Spd=480 MxCh= 0

D: Ver= 2.00 Cls=00(>ifc ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS=64 #Cfgs= 1

P: Vendor=05c6 ProdID=6000 Rev=00.00

S: Manufacturer=Qualcomm, Incorporated

S: Product=Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM

S: SerialNumber=356793033609587

C: #Ifs= 5 Cfg#= 1 Atr=e0 MxPwr=500mA

I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 3 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=ff Prot=ff Driver=option

I: If#= 1 Alt= 0 #EPs= 2 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=ff Prot=ff Driver=option

I: If#= 2 Alt= 0 #EPs= 2 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=ff Prot=ff Driver=option

I: If#= 3 Alt= 0 #EPs= 2 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=ff Prot=ff Driver=option

I: If#= 4 Alt= 0 #EPs= 2 Cls=08(stor.) Sub=06 Prot=50 Driver=usb-storage

It may need a driver? but I don't know how to download it, none show up in software & updates > additional drivers.

when I go into disks I get three options for "Identify As" in mount options, I have tried all of them. I have also tried all the different plans they show as possible for my provider. in the mobile broadband settings "add new connection"

I've tried $gedit /etc/modules

and changed the file to:

# /etc/modules: kernel modules to load at boot time.

#

# This file contains the names of kernel modules that should be loaded

# at boot time, one per line. Lines beginning with "#" are ignored.

loop

lp

rtc

usbserial vendor=0x1c9e product=0x9605

option

and then

$gedit /etc/usb_modeswitch.d/05c6\:6000

which I changed to

DefaultVendor = 0x05c6

DefaultProduct = 0x6000

TargetVendor = 0x05c6

TargetProduct = 0x6000

MessageContent=55534243123456788000000080000606f50402527000000000000000000000

then

$gedit /etc/usb_modeswitch.d/05c6\:6000

then

$usb_modeswitch -c /etc/usb_modeswitch.d/05c6\:6000

These were all the solutions I could find online, and none have yet worked, so I am stumped, thank you so much anyone who might be able to help!

there must be more than that.
depending on which distro and which network managing tool you use, i could advise you where to search for that.

...not saying it's the solution to your problem. also not saying that you shouldn't look at the other results, too. but it's a start - learning to troubleshoot & search for solutions.

Insert your wifi stick before booting your computer, drivers should get loaded automatically, then set up your wifi connection.
