System Authentication using openldap


Hi All,

have any one configured a system authentication framework for unix users. I want to replace openldap in place of NISI want my uers and passwd in Ldap Server and user can login to any machine.

I believe that OpenLDAP is fairly widely used. You probably need to ask a more specific question if you have particular issues: the "Enterprise" forum here has some knowledgable contributors.

OK, I've looked at your other question. RHL 9 has been out of support for several years, and the RHL product line itself has been superceded by the Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Fedora products, so you are unlikely to get answers to questions about it, other than a suggestion that you upgrade to a supported distribution.

I don't know of a complete document on using OpenLDAP for authentication - you will probably have to consult several in order to fully understand the system. This is one of several reasons why I would suggest considering Fedora Directory Server (FDS) instead, especially if you don't have existing LDAP expertise. Red Hat offer a supported version of FDS for Red Hat Enterprise Linux as "Red Hat Directory Server".
