Exclamation SUSE OS backup in tape drive

Hi,

I want to take complete / backup on tape drive.

I have to take backup of suse 11 sp3. But tape drive is connected with solaris 10 server.

Tried tar with rsh but restoration is not working and even I can't verify the data on tape.
secondly tried rmt but restoration is not working.
Third.. taken tar, copied on solaris box and from there dump on tape, again, restored and scp on suse to work..but this scenario is time taking and customer don't want any third party tool.

Can you please suggest the best possibility of / backup on tape.

Tape is not compatible for H/W running suse.

Thanks,
Shankar

With SUSE Enterprise Linux Server 11 Service Pack-3
needing a required support contract ( like redhat dose)

have you looked at the documentation and guides

Have you looked into using Clonezilla ?
or "rsync" ?

Hi,

I have not tried rsync but our destination is tape drive connected with solaris server.

I have to also make sure to restore the data from tape also.

Thanks,
Shankar

If drive will be connected with suse server then it can be done easily, but issue comes with restoration, when connected with solaris.
Alos tape drive is not compatible with H/W, running suse.

But this is with one OS only.
