Segmentation fault when running vgdisplay

Does anyone know "Segmentation fault when running vgdisplay"
will cause system any problem? The system (Linux Enterprise AS4)is running now, however when run vgdisplay dispaly:
--- Volume group ---
VG Name VolGroup_ID_17664
System ID
Format lvm2
Metadata Areas 2
Metadata Sequence No 11
VG Access read/write
VG Status resizable
MAX LV 0
Cur LV 9
Segmentation fault

run
dmsetup --version
Library version: 1.02.25-RHEL4 (2008-04-11)
Segmentation fault

Tried upgraded the device-mapper,created a new initrd which did not help.
Does installing the latest kernel is the only solution? or I just ignore this issue?

Your help is highly appreciated!

Joyce
