Segmentation fault when running ls

need a kick in the right direction . I have an old rh7.3 box that start to act up this morning . The ls command will not work the error is Segmentation fault . It seam that all is fine besides ls. So i have done the google thing and i have searched a few Forums with no fix.
The Thread that i have found where not useful.

This sounds like your core libraries got damaged. Maybe glibc or something like that? See if you can use rpm to verify all your packages are ok. Might be difficult if the box isn't responding to many commands...

Just a hunch.
