Samba auth against a external LDAP server

I set up a samba server and I would like the users to authenticate against a EXTERNAL LDAP server, which would act as a "password server" (not as a passwd backend).

I've been searched a lot on the web but I couldn't get the right info about the parameters I must consider in the samba configuration file (smb.conf).

What's the difference between password backend and passwork server?

I assume you have a line something like

passdb backend = ldapsam:ldap://localhost

Change localhost to the server

passdb backend = ldapsam:ldap://ldap.mydomain.com
