LVM and multiple installs
Hi,
I have a home server partitioned with multiple linux installs - test/prod etc, as well as testing on multiple distros.
Rather than specifying a fixed data area for each distro I'd prefer to use LVM to create a large filesystem which I can split into logical volumes to give individual linux installs, with the ability to resize when needed.
I have done this in my Suse 10 install, and succesfully mounted up on a Centos install on the same machine, which is what I want to do. However, I then tried resizing one of the logical volumes from Centos and it then wouldn't work with Suse again. It had to be recreated.
I suspect it is due to the config created in /etc/lvm on the suse distro not being available on the Centos distro.
Is this the case? What is the stuff that is created in /etc/lvm anyway? I cant find any documentation for it.
Am I OK to do this as long as I have one master distro where I do all my lvm admin and resizing from i.e. Suse and use the other distros just to mount up and use the LVMs, or is this still going to cause problems.
Finally, if I reinstalled the Suse master O/S, would the logical volumes still be available when reinstalled, or would it be unable to work with the logical volumes because it has lost the config originally in /etc/lvm.
Hope this all makes sense.
Thanks in advance.
