installing GD

How do I install GD to use it with php on my server?

I currently have only apache2 and php5 installed. I use Debian 5.0.
Please help, I am a total newb. Thank you.

You have to install the php5-gd package

I installed it, but when I type php5, I get

PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/lib/php5/20060613+lfs/gd.so' - /usr/lib/php5/20060613+lfs/gd.so: undefined symbol: gdImageCreateFromJpeg in Unknown on line 0

and if I try to use one of the functions of GD, like imagecreate in php ,I get a "Fatal error: Call to undefined function imagecreate()".
