I can not start Apache

Hello,

When I click "Start Apache" in webmin I get the following error:
Code:
Failed to start apache :
Starting httpd: httpd: apr_sockaddr_info_get() failed for dhcppc3
httpd: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 127.0.0.1 for ServerName
[FAILED]
Apache was working before, until I faced alot of problems and ended up creating a new user.
What can I do to resolve this problem?

look into you apache configuration file for "ServerName" directive, uncomment it if it's commented, and insert here your machine name.

Thank you Jimbo,

but I still can not start the server.
first here is a copy of my local hosts file:
Code:
# generated by drakhosts
127.0.0.1 localhost mandy
192.168.1.103 ahmad ahmad
and here is the error I got when changing server name to any of these names
Code:
Failed to start apache :
Starting httpd: [FAILED]

Can you post the contents of /etc/apache2/apache2.conf or whatever the name of your file might be.

The file I edited:/etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf (I hope it is the correct file)
This file is too long and nearly 20000 characters will be lost if I posted the whole file

can you tell me a specific portion of the file to post to you?
thanks.

FYI another good place to see is the apache error logs.

/var/www/log
/var/www/error

and I did not find any relevant information in /var/www/error

would be a good idea to reinstall Apache

Can you post
Code:
cat /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf | grep ServerName
I want to see if you have a directive 'ServerName' that specifies your server name.

The output of the command:
Code:
[linux@dhcppc3 ~]$ cat /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf | grep ServerName
# ServerName gives the name and port that the server uses to identify itself.
#ServerName www.example.com:80
ServerName ahmad:80
# ServerName directive.
# ServerName dummy-host.example.com
[linux@dhcppc3 ~]$

Hey AGazzaz,

I just commented out the ServerName Directive in my apache2.conf file and after reloading, I got this message
Code:
root@empire:/etc/apache2# /etc/init.d/apache2 reload
 * Reloading web server config... 5884
apache2: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 127.0.0.1 for ServerName
I suggest that you add this line to the start of your configuration file but replace myfqndomain.com with your fqn.
Code:
ServerName myfqndomain.com

but I do not have a fully qualified domain name as it is a local developing server I used to type http://localhost

What can I put as the FQDN in the conf. file?

You can put "localhost" or "127.0.0.1"

I Gave Up

Sorry for a very late feedback.
But I had an intention to switch eaither to SUSE or Mandriva 2008.1 but I did not like both so I am back to this problem.

Now I want to do this windows way

UnInstall Apache and PHP and install them again

How can I do this?
