Hi,
I have what would seem to be a simple request for help - I need to reboot my server, remotely. Problem is when I was on the server last night (remote via ssh) it started complaining about 'too many files open' and I ended up being disconnected from the server.
As I'm accessing the server remotely I'm struggling to get it rebooted. When I try to connect via ssh all I get is "Read from socket failed: Connection reset by peer". Telnet isn't running on the server. I can ping it.
Any suggestions as to how I can get it rebooted remotely?
I can get the box rebooted, but I have to travel to work - this isn't an option until the beginning of the week. It would be much better if I could do it before then - remotely.
Just to confirm on your first post "When I try to connect via ssh all I get is "Read from socket failed: Connection reset by peer". Telnet isn't running on the server"
You try to ssh in but server reply "Telnet isn't running"?
By the way, it is you need to reboot the server frequently (said every monday) - can try write a reboot script with cron job or at job?
Hi djsmiley2k,
I didn't think there would be any way to reboot remotely without a connection - but it was worth asking. I should be able to get someone to reboot it manually today - nobody available over the weekend.
